Here’s some great news for my fellow Giant Bomb fans, it looks like the venerable gaming website won’t be shutting down after all. For the first time ever, it is now fully owned by the talented people who actually run the site and create its content.
Due to recent changes introduced by its previous owner (Fandom), it seemed like the end was finally near for the website, with key staff members stating they would not continue to work for the company. In a surprising turn of events, the Giant Bomb staff announced this week that they have purchased the website from Fandom. It is now 100% independent and owned by Jeff Grubb, Jeff Bakalar, Dan Ryckert, Jan Ochoa and Mike Minotti.
The website has changed ownership several times since it was founded in 2008 under the banner of Whiskey Media. First it was acquired by CBS Interactive in 2012, then by Red Ventures in 2020, and finally it was sold off to Fandom in 2022. It has gone through a plethora changes since its early days, and while the original founders has since moved on to their own projects, Giant Bomb and its community continue to thrive to this day.
As someone who has been a GB fan since the very beginning, I was very happy to hear this news. I only wish it had happened sooner.

After over a decade of corporate ownership, Giant Bomb will now be truly independent. We don’t work for a corporation anymore, we work for you (please let us know where to send our PTO requests and expense reports). We’re not serving an algorithm or executives, we’re serving you, the audience. We want to lean into what’s always made Giant Bomb special, and that’s the people you see and hear on our content, and our extremely passionate community.
